Deaths Door Barbeque
Come to beautiful Washington Island Friday and Saturday, August 24th & 25th for the first official Death’s Door Bar-B-Q at the Washington Island Airport. Presented by the Washington Island Ferry Line and the Washington Island Chamber of Commerce, the Death’s Door Bar-B-Q is a KCBS-Sanctioned Competition with 100% Certified Judges and $5,000 in Prize Money.
Just picture yourself crossing the beautiful Porte De Mort passage (Death’s Door) connecting the waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay, to the unspoiled beauty of Washington Island. Don’t worry, our ferries can handle any size vehicle so whatever rig you have will easily fit on the boats. Registered Competitors arrive and start cooking Friday, August 24th, and all Cooks, Judges and Sponsors will board the Ferry ARNI J RICHTER for a sunset cruise at 6:30pm. Competitors must sign up by August 11, 2012; teams will be able to sell BBQ at the competition if they wish. Here’s how to register.
Death’s Door Bar-B-Q opens to the public at the Washington Island Airport on Saturday, August 25th from 10am – 7:30pm with free admission, arts & crafts, kids’ activities, live music, food vendors, and of course – Barbequed Chicken, Pork, Pork Ribs, and Beef Brisket as sold by competitors. This delicious day wraps up with a 17-piece big band jazz concert by the Fatum Brothers Big Band, who were invited to play in the Chicago Jazz Festival in 2011.
We look forward to seeing you there!
