In 1889 The Mutual Home Fire Insurance Association was formed by 28 Islanders for the purpose of aiding one another to rebuild their homes, which may be destroyed by fire. In 1939 the Association was renamed the Washington Town Mutual Insurance Company. The company has grown to over 450 members today. We are proud to say we have helped many families with home mortgages, given scholarships to our Washington Island High School graduates, donated our basement for the Pre-School program and continue to give countless donations within our community. Lending a helping hand is what our insurance company is all about...Islanders helping Islanders.

We are a mutual company, we are community based, owned by our policyholders, and run by a board of directors which is elected from among the policyholders (your Island neighbors).
